Age of Sigmar Combat Calculator

Last updated:

The Combat Calculator works out what an attack is likely to do before you roll it. Order of Battle has it free for Age of Sigmar 4th edition: pick one or more attackers from any faction, pick a defender, and see how the fight goes. It reads each unit's weapons and abilities from the catalogue, so you do not type in stats. No account.

Every faction is there, plus Regiments of Renown. Each unit shows its points, doubled when Reinforced, so you can weigh damage against cost.

What it shows

  • Average models killed, out of the defender's models.
  • Average damage, out of the defender's total health.
  • Chance to wipe the whole unit in one go.
  • Max damage, if every dice rolls its best.
  • How many models die, as a chart, with the most common result and the chance to kill at least a quarter, half, three quarters, or all of the unit.

It runs the fight 4,000 times instead of giving one average, so you see the spread: a unit that averages 5 kills might wipe the target one game in ten, or almost never.

How the maths works

  1. Attacks: each weapon's Attacks, times the models carrying it. Reinforced units have twice the models.
  2. Hit roll: each attack hits on the weapon's Hit value or better.
  3. Wound roll: each hit wounds on the weapon's Wound value or better.
  4. Save roll: the defender saves on their Save, made worse by the weapon's Rend.
  5. Ward roll: if the defender has a ward, each point of damage can still be stopped.
  6. Damage: what gets through is dealt to one model at a time. Damage left over after a model is slain carries on to the next.

Worked example: 10 attacks, Hit 3+, Wound 3+, Rend 1, Damage 1, against a 4+ save. Two thirds hit, two thirds of those wound, and the save drops to 5+, so two thirds get through. 10 × ⅔ × ⅔ × ⅔ is about 3 damage. Combat Calculator does this for every weapon at once, then adds the crits and modifiers below.

Crits and weapon abilities

  • Crit (2 Hits): an unmodified 6 to hit scores two hits.
  • Crit (Auto-wound): an unmodified 6 to hit wounds without a wound roll.
  • Crit (Mortal): an unmodified 6 to hit deals mortal damage, which skips the save but not the ward.
  • Anti-X (+1 Rend): turns on by itself when the defender has the keyword.
  • Charge (+1 Damage): counts when the attacker charged.

Modifiers

Each attacker has its own modifiers: Charged, All-out Attack, +1 Attack, +1 to Hit, +1 to Wound, +1 Rend, and +1 Damage. The defender can take All-out Defence, -1 to be hit, -1 to be wounded, -1 Rend, and -1 Attack. Pick shooting, melee, or both, and use a real unit as the defender or a custom one with its own models, health, save, and ward.

Abilities that deal mortal damage

Some units hurt the enemy outside their weapons, like Kurnoth Hunters on the charge. Combat Calculator finds those abilities on the warscroll and lets you switch them on; abilities that trigger when the unit charged turn on by themselves with Charged. Their damage shows as Ability damage in the results.

Limits

Stats come from the community BSData catalogue, not Games Workshop. Abilities that depend on the table, like auras or "each time a model is slain", are left out. Use it to compare options, then confirm rules with your opponent.

Questions

Is the Age of Sigmar Combat Calculator free?

Yes. It is free, with no account, and runs in your browser on phone or desktop.

Which units can I use?

Every Age of Sigmar 4th edition faction, plus Regiments of Renown. You can also make a custom defender with its own models, health, save, and ward.

Does it show unit points?

Yes. Each unit shows its points, doubled when Reinforced, so you can compare damage against what the unit costs.

How accurate is it?

Accurate for what it covers: it simulates the fight 4,000 times using BSData warscroll stats. Abilities that depend on the table, like auras, are left out, and rerolls are not supported yet.
